From the beginning the experience of starting my own bookstore was exceptionally easy - thanks to the bookstore101.com program!
My wife and I started a bookstore in the autumn of 2003 in Charleston, WV. We were first time business owners and were unsure where to start. Kevin and Sue from 101 did a great job calming us down and getting the process rolling. We went for the full package where we received in store training, policy, and customer relation tips from Sue. Kevin then helped us with location planning, layout, and shelf design. Finally we were able to buy our initial 7,000 book inventory from 101. Also, from reading the book, we were able to get tips on where to pick up more books at a small cost as well as what types of inventory to avoid!
Our store opened and was profitable the first month in business. We quickly built a relationship with our community and other local businesses. Our store was featured in newspaper articles, had author signing, and radio station sponsoring. It was an amazing experience and grew at a rate that we couldn't believe.
Just two years after opening, we moved and sold the extremely profitable store for nearly three times the amount of our investment. We loved the store and are looking to open another one (with the help of Bookstore101) in the future. I can't recommend the service enough. If someone is going to start a bookstore (or make their current one better) Bookstore101 is like the deluxe cliff notes that will help one ace their business.
